Why Coaching?

The decision to transition my practice from therapy to coaching was influenced by a number of factors. First, a desire to be able to maintain connection to clients if they or I moved out of the state I was licensed in, especially with the availability of telehealth as an option. Many clients expressed anxiety about transitioning to a new practitioner after establishing care with me, which I understood and had also personally experienced. Similarly, I had people reaching out to me or referred to me based on the work that I do who wanted to work with me personally but could not due to licensure restrictions and location. I am committed to continually assessing whether a client would benefit more from working with a local practitioner, for safety reasons, accessibility to/need for local resources, level of acuity, crisis etc. but for many people, it is not the case that a local practitioner is essential for them to receive the space they desire to pursue healing and change.

As I have moved through life, it has become important to me to be able to have the option to move and flow in ways that feel aligned and congruent. The beauty of coaching is that it can be done from anywhere and I am able to work with clients all over the United States and the world. I don’t know if I will always be a little bit nomadic but there is a possibility. Practicing as a coach allows me to use my training while also having the flexibility to continue growing my practice, to have a broader reach, and to offer my clients stability and continuity of care if they or I move to a new location.

My commitment to my clients as a coach versus a therapist is unchanged. Practicing ethically, assessing well, being committed to continuing education and honing and expanding my skills - all of these things remain of utmost importance to me. All my earned credentials are still the same, this is just a way of practicing that allows me to offer my skillset to more clients and allows more ease of movement for myself as well.  My education, training and ethical commitments I made as a licensed therapist remain foundational in the ways I approach my work with clients and the seriousness with which I approach the sacred work of being with others as a safe container in their healing and transformation journeys.
